Brief Description of Activity:
Students will be given a blank map of Alberta. They will then be directed to the site http://www.abheritage.ca/abnature/map.htm and asked to label and colour their map of where the major geographical and natural vegetation regions are in Alberta. The map must be labeled, coloured accordingly and have a legend. On the other side of their map each natural vegetation region will be listed with three bullet points under each for students to further explore the site and write down three interesting facts about each region. *See below PDF for Worksheet.
General Learner Outcome:
4.1.2: Students will examine, critically, the physical geography of Alberta by exploring and reflecting upon the following questions and issues
Specific Learner Outcomes:
• What are the major geographical and natural vegetation regions, landforms and bodies of
water in Alberta (e.g., prairie region, forests, rivers, hoodoos, Rocky Mountains, oil sands)?(LPP)
ICT Outcomes:
C6: Students will use technology to investigate and/or solve problems.
C7: Students will use electronic research techniques to construct personal knowledge and meaning.
P2: Student will organize and manipulate data.
Rationale for Computer Integration:
Computers have been integrated into this assignment for a more hands on interactive way for students to learn about the natural vegetation regions of Alberta rather than the teacher just showing them.
Computer use also allows students to learn basic research skills.

The basic “and “search using Google to find this student friendly site for students to learn from. Typed in Alberta Natural Regions of Alberta and Kids and this was one of the top sites that came up.
