CHARACTERISTICS/BEHAVIOURS
Students with Learning Disabilities can have very different learning profiles depending on what their struggles are. These struggles can include listening, concentrating, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning, math, or social interaction. Learning Disabilities can be due to genetics, other neuro biological factors, and can also appear in association with medical, communication, and emotional behavioural disorders and conditions. |
. TEACHING STRATEGIES
- Create visual cues with the student rather than calling them out in front of the class. - Allow more time to complete tasks that they struggle in and allow them to feel comfortable to come to you for extra help without feeling ashamed. - Incorporate the idea of fairness into your classroom. Fairness is allowing everyone to get what they need to succeed not everyone getting and being treated the same. - Encourage students to create personal goals that include positive reinforcements from you and their peers and rewards when reached. - Differentiate your instruction to include aspects of auditory, visual and kinesthetic learning strategies in your teaching. |
